My Unexpected Initiation into the Telepathic Future
Part 1
With nearly twenty years immersed as a guest at the helm of cosmologies far removed from my upbringing, I’ve learned much about the possibilities of human consciousness. Since 2007, I’ve spent considerable time learning from Indigenous elders, not out of ambition but out of a need to make meaning of the world and its trials. Still, the right attitude and approach can’t help but resemble studiousness, and by their own doctrines, that invites the transmission of wisdom rather than its containment. So, despite my best efforts to sabotage anything that might confer sacred responsibility, one eventually looks around and recognizes the honor of being let into mysteries denied even to the wealthiest of men, and must accept that responsibility when it’s placed in one’s hands.
For over a decade, I’ve carried forth the duties of service, both as a bridge to an ancestral line I was not born into but initiated within, and as a guide in my own right, having lived enough to draw meaning and wisdom from the trials of this land and its life. That work has drawn me into the most intimate worlds of countless passengers and pilgrims from every walk of life, and in doing so, has continued to teach me about the nature of Mind and Spirit.
Yet it’s only in the past year that the gravity of these cosmologies and their implications has truly settled. Not as myth or metaphor, but as living reflections, records of consciousness and beingness itself. What I’m getting at here has to do with life, not only human, animal, or plant, but elemental, cryptid, angelic, extraterrestrial, and multidimensional life.
Perhaps it should have been obvious earlier on, but when a gringo is catapulted into a doctrine of abstaining from indulgence, so that we might be better equipped to approach and learn from plant-spirits who shapeshift and speak in dream symbols and song, testing our intentions through trickery and illusion so that we may remain lucid enough to remember our aim to eventually be rewarded with mythical armor or literal powers of particular means, one has to choose their weird to stay grounded. UFOs and psychic abilities—now that’s where I drew the line.
That’s not to say I hadn’t already had my share of UFO or “alien” encounters within the confines of ceremony or sama (dieta), or that I hadn’t experienced precognition, mindsight (seeing with eyes closed), or telepathy inside the circle. I had. But when the UFO shows up in your actual neighborhood, and beings from other worlds, this one included, begin communicating telepathically for months on end, you’d better believe it’s more than an a-ha moment.
So that happened.
And needless to say, I’m still in the process of making meaning from it. I won’t go into the details of who the beings were or what exactly they were transmitting, only that it set off a cascade of synchronicities that eventually led me to begin developing an app called Telepath.
Well, let me back up a minute. Last November I took a small group down to my maestros in the Peruvian Amazon. Before we left, I’d been bingeing the Telepathy Tapes podcast—I’ll explain why that’s relevant later. As it turned out, right before our first ceremony, my friend Ryan came up to me looking confused and a little frightened. He wanted to talk about a strange series of text messages he’d received after we arrived in Peru.
Ryan explained that a woman he went to high school with—someone he hadn’t spoken to in nearly a decade—had reached out to tell him she’d become close with a family whose nonverbal son, Gavin, now twenty, had specific messages for Ryan from Ryan’s best friend Anton. The only problem was that Anton had been dead for years, and Ryan had never met Gavin. What’s stranger still, Gavin had never met Anton, at least not in the flesh.
According to the texts, Gavin wanted Ryan to know that Anton knew he was going to the Amazon and was very happy for him and the adventures ahead. Ryan, who was going through an intense breakup, hadn’t told anyone he was going to the jungle. He never posted about it online. There was no way Gavin could have known—except, apparently, through telepathic communication with the spirit of Anton.
When Ryan told me what he’d just read, he was dumbfounded. I, on the other hand, had been immersed in The Telepathy Tapes, so my reaction was excitement. I filled him in on the podcast and assured him this was not only real but important, and that he should follow up with Gavin once he returned to the States.
Ryan ended up staying in Peru for four months and went straight on tour with his band afterward, so connecting with Gavin’s family never happened. Still, it never left my mind—and likely never left his.
When I returned to the States, while Ryan was still in Peru, I encountered that triangular craft, followed by months of telepathic communication with both extraterrestrial beings and others who turned out to be nonverbal kids. As I mentioned earlier, this became the foundation for Telepath.
Here’s a brief timeline of how that unfolded: over the course of two or three days, during meditation, I received the schematics—along with a burst of flow-state creative energy—to write (or channel) a white paper. I immediately copyrighted it and showed it to a few trusted friends from the startup world whom I knew through ceremony. Within a short time, the right advisors appeared, and I was introduced to Jon, who would become my partner in Telepath. We were soon connected with investors, and the first checks were written to help us reach the next milestone.
Somewhere along the way we found out about and then sponsored the first international Psi Games, a competitive and educational event that brought together the leading researchers in psi phenomena, along with people demonstrating advanced psi capabilities—telepathy, mindsight, telekinesis, remote viewing, and more. I could write an entire piece about what we witnessed there and all the connections made. It was life-changing to witness human beings demonstrate these potentials in person. And, it was incredibly eye-opening to hear lectures from elders in the science of consciousness share their decades-long research with an eager audience that was surprisingly non-woo for the most part. Many connections were made, but one in particular is perhaps the most relevant to this essay.
Diane Hennacy Powell, M.D., is a psychiatrist, neuroscientist, and author known for her groundbreaking research on consciousness and anomalous cognition. A graduate of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and former faculty member at Harvard Medical School, she has spent decades exploring the intersection of neuroscience, psi phenomena, and the nature of mind. Her studies of nonverbal autistic savants—children who appear to communicate telepathically—have brought renewed scientific attention to the question of nonlocal awareness. Powell is the author of The ESP Enigma: A Scientific Case for Psychic Phenomena and a frequent lecturer at international conferences on consciousness and human potential. Her work challenges the materialist view of the brain, proposing instead that consciousness is fundamental and interconnected—a field through which all minds participate.
Her research also serves as a cornerstone for The Telepathy Tapes podcast; without Powell’s pioneering studies, the evidence base and inspiration that sparked that project—and much of the renewed public conversation around telepathic communication—would likely not exist. So after a brief introduction at Psi Games, followed by a synchronous meeting at the airport, I was ecstatic to receive a follow-up from Diane the next day.
After filling her in on my background and the recent experiences with the UFO and subsequent telepathic communication, I was pleasantly surprised that none of it was out of the ordinary for someone with such accomplished credentials. With that out of the way, we could relax and move into the finer details of why we might be connecting and what this next phase of my life might indicate.
The reader may have paused earlier at the mention of extraterrestrial telepathic communication, but it’s the communication with the nonverbal children—and my acceptance into their astral meeting place, The Hill—that truly led to the development of the Telepath app, and perhaps what most intrigued Diane about speaking with me. Somewhere in the midst of this, the topic of ancestry arose, and we discovered we share several distant ancestors, making us cousins of sorts. Our story is only beginning.
It is my belief that part of why I was contacted had something to do with my background in applied consciousness via ceremonial means, giving me a particular opening and outlook by default—one that is conducive to and in harmony with the vision of those with expanded and advanced abilities. From Diane’s point of view, these nonverbal telepaths are doing outreach to find those who are willing to align with and amplify their “voices” at this time. It’s safe to say we share the belief that at least some of these beings are advanced souls who have incarnated in bodies that allow them to inhabit expanded states of consciousness in order to guide humanity as a whole to higher states of consciousness.
Eventually Ryan returned home from Peru, then from his tour and came to the desert for ceremony. He was also getting ready to play drums for me on a run of shows around the Great Lakes region opening up for Bonnie “Prince” Billy (who I met in a dream the day before we met in waking life). Naturally, I asked Ryan if he’d heard from Gavin. Turns out, he just had. It was time to meet Gavin and his family—and I made sure I’d be there too.

Right here with you - glad to know you exist too
A whole new world of possibilities is opening. It makes so much sense that some of these unexplained phenomena like the orbs are related to the nonspeakers and that they are very much well wishers to humanity.
It’s hard to reconcile the advanced nature of those souls and what they’ve come here to do with the current autism conversation of children whose bodies seem to be badly injured or affected by toxicity where daily tasks are so straining. My son has an autism diagnosis (level 1 perhaps) and we have been dedicating all of our efforts since his diagnosis to healing gut inflammation and neuroinflammation. I haven’t heard them discuss alternative therapies on the telepathy tapes but I wonder if you have encountered anyone talking about the possibility of easing the physical struggle for some of these nonverbal kids or if they even feel it necessary.
