Anomalous Outliers or Suppressed Human Capacities?
Reframing Intelligence for a New Paradigm: Hypercognizance
The concept of Hypercognizance isn’t just theoretical—it may already be emerging in ways we fail to recognize. The signs are all around us, scattered across disciplines, experiences, and unique cognitive abilities that have long been dismissed as anomalies rather than early indicators of an evolutionary shift.
(This is the second article in a series of Hypercognizance. Make sure to read the first for a deeper overview.)
Cognitive Outliers and the Emerging Pattern
Throughout history, certain individuals have displayed extraordinary mental abilities—heightened pattern recognition, rapid problem-solving, and an uncanny ability to synthesize complex information. Traditionally, these cases have been compartmentalized:
Neurodivergent individuals, particularly those on the autism spectrum, often exhibit heightened perception, exceptional memory, and deep pattern recognition. These traits have been studied within the framework of neurodiversity but rarely considered as early indicators of an evolving human cognition.
Elite performers—athletes, musicians, artists, and visionaries—tap into altered states of awareness that allow them to operate at peak performance. This is often described as a “flow state,” but what if it’s a form of Hypercognizance—an ability to shift cognitive modes seamlessly?
Intuitive thinkers, mystics, and altered-state experiencers report accessing insights beyond the limits of traditional cognition. Whether through meditation, psychedelics, or spontaneous altered states, these individuals demonstrate the capacity to navigate multiple layers of awareness at once.
What if these aren’t isolated phenomena but different expressions of an emerging cognitive model? What if, instead of treating these as rare abilities, we started recognizing them as early manifestations of a new cognitive paradigm?
The Suppression of Expanded Cognition
Despite these indicators, mainstream institutions have largely suppressed, dismissed, or fragmented these states of expanded cognition. Academic fields often isolate these phenomena into separate disciplines—neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, and anthropology—preventing a holistic understanding of their role in human evolution.
Beyond academia, societal structures reinforce rigid ways of thinking that keep us tethered to linear, reductionist models of intelligence. Historically, indigenous cultures have long acknowledged heightened cognitive states, integrating them into their cosmologies, rites of passage, healing traditions, and art. Yet these perspectives have been largely ignored or labeled as mythology rather than recognized as sophisticated frameworks for expanded awareness.
The reason for this suppression may be simple: a hypercognizant population is harder to control. In a world structured around hierarchy, conformity, and passive consumption, the last thing those in power want is for people to access their full cognitive potential. But as AI, decentralization, and quantum mechanics disrupt traditional paradigms, it’s becoming clear that the old systems no longer serve even those who benefit from them.
Hypercognizance as a Latent Capacity
Rather than being exclusive to savants, high-performers, or those with altered-state experiences, Hypercognizance may be an innate potential within all of us—a latent faculty that can be developed through training and intentional practice.
We already see glimpses of this in:
Gamers and Spatial Intelligence – The ability to process vast amounts of spatial and strategic information in real time, as seen in professional gamers and chess grandmasters, hints at higher-order cognition operating beyond typical processing speed.
Psychedelic and Meditative Insights – Many who engage in deep meditation or psychedelic journeys report an expanded sense of perception, an ability to see connections and patterns that were previously invisible. These experiences are often dismissed as subjective, but what if they are indicators of cognitive expansion?
Telepathic Communication in Non-Speakers – The emergence of facilitated communication methods, as documented in research and accounts like The Telepathy Tapes, suggests that some individuals possess untapped abilities to communicate and process information in ways beyond verbal speech. Could this be another form of hypercognitive potential?
The Overlooked Clues: Cognitive Anomalies or Evolutionary Leaps?
Science has yet to fully account for cognitive anomalies—those rare cases where individuals display profound abilities, often without training. Consider:
Individuals with hyperthymesia, the ability to recall past events with near-perfect accuracy.
People with synesthesia, whose senses blend together, allowing them to “see” sounds or “taste” colors, often resulting in heightened pattern recognition.
Cases of spontaneous mathematical genius, where individuals suddenly acquire advanced problem-solving skills following brain trauma or near-death experiences.
Instead of treating these as outliers, we should ask: Are these previews of what is possible? And if so, can these cognitive abilities be intentionally developed rather than appearing by chance?
Reframing Intelligence: A New Cognitive Spectrum
Traditional intelligence models classify individuals along rigid spectrums—IQ, creativity, emotional intelligence—but what if we need a new spectrum for intelligence expansion? A framework that acknowledges cognitive fluidity, the ability to move between different modes of thinking, feeling, and perceiving at will.
This is the essence of Hypercognizance—not just intelligence in the conventional sense, but an ability to think, perceive, and experience reality through multiple layers at once.
Suppression, Fragmentation, and the Loss of a Holistic View
Historically, certain cultures and wisdom traditions have embraced expanded states of consciousness and multidimensional thinking as natural human capacities. However, modern institutions have systematically suppressed or compartmentalized these abilities, reinforcing a rigid, linear approach to intelligence.
Academic Compartmentalization – Rather than studying cognition holistically, modern institutions break knowledge into isolated disciplines, preventing a unified understanding of human potential.
Social and Cultural Suppression – Mainstream narratives often frame cognitive anomalies as defects or pathologies rather than indicators of hidden capabilities. Intuition, altered perception, and extrasensory awareness are frequently dismissed rather than explored.
Control Mechanisms – It has not served those in power for humanity to wake up to its latent capacities, as doing so naturally leads to sovereignty, autonomy, and a rejection of external control structures. Yet, as AI, decentralization, and quantum advancements accelerate, suppressing these abilities no longer serves even the elite. The world is shifting—whether or not the old paradigm is ready for it.
Moving Forward: Developing the Capacity for Hypercognizance
In the next installment, we will explore how psychedelics, especially ayahuasca, may play a key role in activating these latent capacities, dissolving old mental frameworks, and opening access to expanded cognition. Many indigenous traditions have long understood altered states not as anomalies, but as integral to human perception—gateways to knowledge, guidance, and expanded intelligence. Could plant medicine be an amplifier for Hypercognizance, and are these traditions pointing to a reality we are only beginning to scientifically validate? If so, what does that mean for the future of intelligence training?
By taking a closer look at the intersection of psychedelics, indigenous cognition, and evolving human intelligence, we may uncover a powerful catalyst for human evolution—one that has been hiding in plain sight.
This is Part Two of the Hypercognizance Series. Stay tuned for the next article on the role of psychedelics in cognitive evolution.
(For those who are serious about training for Hypercognizance, I’ll be weaving some of these concepts into Phase Sync, where we take these principles and apply them experientially in a 13 week course starting March 17th, 2025.)
I've been communing with Source through plant medicine since 2022 and it has led to some truly incredible, and otherwise inexplicable, paintings that have have been quite prophetic. It's intimidating and strange to have my life be changing so rapidly or to recognize where this may have always been a part of me and to accept how deeply I have been suppressed by old world frameworks. Thank you for sharing this 🙏
Yes, this is brilliant and I agree
